The museums of the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts received 15 historical battle banners from the military.
Today, on the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation, a solemn ceremony of handing over the historical battle flags of military units that participated in the battles of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was held on Cathedral Square near the Main Church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The banners of the renowned regiments and divisions were handed over to the servicemen of the Southern Military District by the guard of honor of the Moscow garrison. The banners will be placed in state and municipal museums of the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts.
“The decision of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation to return the historical battle banners from the storerooms of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces to the museums of military glory of cities in the South of Russia will allow hundreds, thousands of people to see these relics live every day, and most importantly, these banners will become available to our youth,” said the state Secretary – Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Nikolai Pankov.
He called it a sacred duty to preserve and enhance the memory of the exploits of soldiers and sailors, officers, generals and admirals who made a huge contribution to our victory over fascism. The deputy minister added that such work will continue in three military districts and in the Northern Fleet.
After delivery to Rostov-on-Don, the banners will be displayed in the military-historical museum complex at the site of the ARMY-2021 International Military-Technical Forum.
Earlier, as part of a working trip to the troops of the Southern Military District, when visiting the Sambek Heights museum complex, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, instructed to replace the copies of the military banners of the Red Army military units that liberated the Rostov region from the Nazis with originals presented in the museum.
