Teenagers who find themselves in a difficult life situation especially need support. They need mentors who will help them get on the right path, find themselves, and choose a profession. Especially for these children, the center “My Career” organized a summer school “PRO Heroes”.
The next season in the PROHeroes summer employment project for teenagers is coming to an end. This year 500 young men and women took part in it. The guys underwent personal and career guidance trainings, and also got acquainted with heroic professions – they learned what it is like to be a pilot, policeman, rescuer and race driver. Read about the feelings with which adolescents finish a project in the mos.ru article.
Energy – in a peaceful direction
“PROGeroev” – career guidance project of the employment center “My career” for adolescents who have faced difficulties in life. Psychologists and representatives of “adrenaline” professions work with children during the summer. So, in 2021, young people were offered to try their hand at Motorsport, Rescuer, Aviation and Police. Having become acquainted with one of the professions, adolescents will be able to channel their energy into a peaceful channel and decide on the choice of a specialty.
Several metropolitan organizations became partners of the summer school in 2021. Among them are the Department for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Fire Safety, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the I Want to Skate sports and technical club, the Aviator flight club, and the CAO family and childhood support center. The project participants were selected by Moscow family centers. And the chairs of the mentors of the young heroes were taken by students of the Moscow State Psychological and Pedagogical University and graduates of the special course “My Career”.
“This year the team of heroes was joined by another 500 teenagers aged 14 to 17 years. In total, two thousand young Muscovites took part in the project. Young men and women met with representatives of extreme specialties, professionals in their field. I am sure that the knowledge and practical experience gained will help the children become more responsible, learn how to plan their time, set goals and go to achieve them, ”says Alexandra Alexandrova, First Deputy Head of the Moscow City Department of Labor and Social Protection.
During the summer project, the children attended over 300 events, including specialized trainings and excursions. In particular, we went to the subdivisions of the Department of Civil Defense and Security, emergency and fire and rescue teams, visited the search and rescue water stations Tsaritsyno and Strogino, as well as the Forensic Center and the Center of the Cynological Service of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Southern Administrative District.
“We are glad to cooperate with the PROHeroes project. All the guys are active and curious, sincerely interested in the details of the work of the rescue station. Each lesson began with an introductory excursion: the rescuers told how they were on duty, patrolling and preventive conversations with vacationers, how they provided first aid. The young people were introduced to the rules of safe behavior on the water, they were shown search and rescue and diving equipment. At the master classes, they showed how to resuscitate a person, after which the adolescents practiced on a dummy simulator. I am sure that now the guys will not be confused in a difficult situation, ”says Alexander Samokhin, head of the Strogino search and rescue station.
“Rul” for life
The project participants, who were trained in the direction of “Police”, learned from forensic experts how to recognize counterfeit money and uncover the actions of criminals, attended the biological and chemical examination. The children were also shown how the mounted police and canine service work, they were told how they can teach dogs to look for explosives and other dangerous items.
Students of the Aviation course learned about the professions of a pilot, aircraft designer and air traffic controller. Once a week, young men and women sat at the helm of the flight simulator and tried to “steer”. The rest of the time they attended master classes on personal growth and teamwork.
“I have been interested in aviation for a long time. It was amazing to take off, fly the plane, land on the flight simulator. My goal is to work as a flight attendant. Information about the structure of liners and their management is very important to me. And most of all we were impressed by the trainings at which we were taught to “read” passengers. When you work on board, it is advisable to immediately understand what kind of person is in front of you, what to expect from him, how to resolve a possible conflict, ”says 17-year-old Angelina Iokhina, a student at the Moscow College of Transport.
Another participant of the Aviation program, a 17-year-old eleventh grader Vladimir Vitiugov, is going to enter a flight school after school. “The flight simulator we trained on was once a real plane. They took off the cabin, left all the consoles in it and connected computers and monitors. Therefore, the feeling of a real flight was created, ”says the young man.
And according to 15-year-old Oleg Frolov, a student of one of the Moscow cadet corps and a future lawyer, he always wanted to “just fly” for himself. As a result, the boy wondered: shouldn’t he make flying his hobby?
The famous Russian race car driver Timofey Andryushchenko studied with young people on the course “Motorsport”. With his light hand, the guys mastered the basics of the professions of an autopilot, navigator and mechanic and “gave gas” on a car simulator.
“I am fond of cars. After training on a car simulator, you want to get behind the wheel of a real racing car. Timofey explained so well how to avoid obstacles, how to cope with difficulties on the road, that I heard him, I immediately understood everything, ”says 17-year-old law student Artem Medvedev.
However, as the project participants told mos.ru, regardless of the field of study, they got the most powerful impression from communicating with other guys and curators, as well as from communication and personal trainings. Oleg Frolov, for example, admitted that before PROHeroes it was difficult for him to build contact with people. This is not a problem now.
“Once the mentors gave the task to imagine that we are already 80 years old, and offered to think about what we would say to ourselves today. It was powerful. I would say to myself: “Do not be afraid, always achieve your goal, do not give up.” In general, the PROHeroes project is a great idea: to pick up teenagers and guide them, to bring up real people, ”says Artem Medvedev.
In addition to the PROHeroes project, the My Career employment center organizes other programs for teenagers. For example, in July, the online program “Summer of My Career” was held. From July to August, paid internships were held for the wards of urban family centers. The projects of the center help children to better understand themselves, understand their preferences, gain useful experience and consciously approach the choice of a profession.
