A meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Defense was held today at the National Center for Defense Management in Moscow. It was attended by the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.

The meeting reviewed the progress in the implementation of plans for activities in the Northern Fleet, in the Main Directorate of the Military Police and the Military Topographic Directorate in terms of the implementation of the May decrees of the President of Russia and his instructions following the Sochi meetings.

In his opening remarks, Sergei Shoigu recalled that the Ministry of Defense gives priority to strengthening the country’s defense capability in the Arctic region, while most of the tasks to resolve this issue are entrusted to the Northern Fleet. The development of military infrastructure is underway, which allows the troops stationed in this zone to function effectively. Administrative and residential complexes have been built on the islands of the Arctic Ocean, and the system of basing in the Arctic is being improved. The comfortable conditions of service and life created for our servicemen are under special control.

According to the minister, by the end of the year it is planned to complete the construction of a residential complex of eight houses with 486 apartments in the city of Hajiyevo. Thus, the issue of providing service housing to the garrison submariners will be completely resolved. On the island of Alexandra Land, the world’s northernmost indoor swimming pool of 25 meters is built. The construction of the Temp airfield on the Novosibirsk Islands archipelago is nearing completion. For the 3rd Air Defense Division, a military town is being built in the village of Tiksi in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

“This year it is planned to build 147 buildings and structures in the Northern Fleet. At the moment, 64 objects have been commissioned, ”Sergei Shoigu said.

The re-equipment of the naval forces with new types of weapons continues. The combat potential of the general-purpose forces significantly increases after the entry into service of the lead submarine of the improved project Yasen-M. In addition, the delivery of 238 pieces of modern weapons is planned this year. New ships are being tested, including the nuclear submarines “Knyaz Oleg”, “Novosibirsk” and “Belgorod”, a shipborne missile system with a hypersonic cruise missile “Zircon”, which will soon enter service with the Navy.

The overall staffing of the forces and troops of the fleet with all categories of servicemen is 97.7%, by the end of the year this figure will increase to 99.2%.

Together with the Russian Geographical Society, the Northern Fleet is carrying out a complex expedition “Remember the War” and plans to hold the next stage of the historical and cultural project “The Main Facade of Russia. History, events, people ”.

As part of these events, important research is being carried out in the waters of the Barents, White and Kara Seas, as well as large-scale work on the reconstruction of the routes of the first explorers of Novaya Zemlya. Joint initiatives of the Northern Fleet and the Russian Geographical Society for Arctic exploration will continue.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the formation of the military police. This law enforcement structure was created to ensure the rule of law, law and order, military discipline and road safety in the Armed Forces.

During the execution of special tasks in Syria, the military police ensured the safety of more than 2.5 thousand humanitarian actions, during which more than five thousand tons of cargo were transferred to the civilian population. The activities of the peacekeeping forces of the United Nations Organization in the demilitarized zone of the Golan Heights have been ensured.

Taking part in solving problems of reconciliation of the warring parties to the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the military police units ensure the safety of road traffic along the “Lachin corridor” and law and order in the cities of Stepanakert and Mardakert.

On the territory of the Russian Federation, annually, in cooperation with federal executive authorities, the military police organize comprehensive security of the International Military-Technical Forum, International Army Games and competitions with the participation of Russian military personnel.

The level of professionalism of the military police is confirmed by the results of the “Guardian of Order” and “Road Patrol” contests.

This year, the international stages of these competitions are being held for the first time in Serbia and Qatar with the participation of six foreign countries.

Thanks to the effective actions of the military police units, the accident rate in the RF Armed Forces has been reduced by 29%, there are no road accidents associated with technical malfunction of vehicles.

Further, the head of the military department recalled the significant contribution made by the Military Topographic Directorate to the implementation of state policy in the field of geodesy, cartography and navigation.

“He is developing and equipping the army and navy with modern topographic equipment, as well as navigation aids that are not inferior in their characteristics to the best world analogues,” the minister said. – Since 2019, 280 units of topographic equipment and over 27 thousand units of navigation equipment have been delivered to the Armed Forces. This made it possible to reduce the time for creating digital information about the terrain – by half, and the operational publication of topographic maps – by three times. “

In addition, the supplied equipment has proven itself perfectly during the special operation in Syria, the Arctic operation Umka-2021 and exercises in difficult climatic conditions.

Work continues on the development of a global space geodetic network, which supports the state general terrestrial coordinate system, geodetic support of GLONASS, orbital flights of spacecraft and rocket complexes. According to experts, its use will increase the effectiveness of modern weapons systems by 20%.

“Thanks to the introduction of advanced digital technologies, the Ministry of Defense has begun to create a single geo-information space for the Armed Forces. This will reduce the time required to bring the troops up-to-date cartographic information to several hours instead of several days and move to a qualitatively new level of topographic and geodetic and navigation support, ”the head of the military department added.
