Specialists will clean the bottom of silt and mud, create a waterproof layer, repair the coastal strip and equip gentle exits from the reservoir for waterfowl.

Improvement of the Medvedkovsky pond has begun in the Severnoye Medvedkovo area. Specialists of the municipal economy complex will put in order a reservoir with an area of 0.2 hectares. The work is planned to be completed by the end of the year.

The work must be carried out due to the shallowing of the pond. Historically, it was fed during the flood and high water seasons by the waters of the Rayevsky brook, melted snow and rainfall. Due to climate change, a truly snowy winter rarely comes to the capital, and this has affected the reservoir. In the past few years, the pond has ceased to receive seasonal recharge, and the bottom layer has begun to rapidly lose water. A significant amount of silt and mud has accumulated at the bottom of the reservoir. It is also necessary to repair the water outlet, which should regulate the water supply to the pond.

“Despite the small size of the reservoir, Mosvodostok approached the improvement of the Medvedkovsky pond with special responsibility. Such works will be carried out as complete drainage of water, extraction of silt deposits from the bottom of the pond, construction of an impermeable layer, improvement of the coastal strip with a length of 469 linear meters using several types of bank protection, creation of gentle exits for waterfowl, restoration of a water outlet and a spillway chamber, ”said Deputy General Director of State Unitary Enterprise “Mosvodostok” Vladimir Yavorsky.

At the final stage of work, it is planned to equip two bioplato zones in different parts of the pond with a total area of 535 square meters. Experts will plant higher aquatic vegetation, including the Red Data Book and rare species: common iris, parasol, marsh iris, lake reeds, narrow-leaved cattail. Also, nesting places for waterfowl and a fish spawning area will be arranged on the pond. In addition, the observation deck will be repaired.

Medvedkovsky pond is located on the territory of the forest park of the same name; locals like to walk here. The pond was formed when this area was outside the city limits. There is a pedestrian bridge in the upper part of the reservoir, and an observation deck with an adjoining children’s play area is installed in the center.

The capital has already ended improvement of 12 ponds… The specialists strengthened the coastlines, cleaned the reservoirs and, where necessary, made a waterproof layer to constantly maintain the water level.
