The tests were attended by 50 employees of the special-purpose departments of the penal system, serving in the regions of the Siberian, Ural and Far Eastern federal districts.

The test program was designed for a week and included entrance control of physical fitness, training and familiarization with the track. The main tests took place on August 27 near the village of Plishkino, Irkutsk region. The employees made a 12-kilometer march across rough terrain, performed exercises for shooting exercises with a machine gun and a pistol, and showed skills in eliminating criminals in a multi-storey building using high-altitude assault equipment.

At each stage, candidates who could not cope with the load were removed from the test. Only the strongest survived the 12-minute sparring and received a maroon beret – a symbol of the highest professional skill. The owners of the berets were five employees of the special-purpose departments of the GUFSIN of Russia in the Irkutsk region, the GUFSIN of Russia in the Kemerovo region, the GUFSIN of Russia in the Sverdlovsk region, the GUFSIN of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region, and the FSIN of Russia in the Republic of Khakassia.

Tests for the right to wear a maroon beret in the penal system of the Irkutsk region have been conducted since 1999, in 2006 they received the status of interregional, in 2014 – all-Russian.
