Within the framework of the International Competition “Aviadarts-2021”, the next flight stage of the competition was held – search and rescue operations.

Under the terms of this element of the competition, the crews received a command about those in distress and in need of evacuation. The search area was about 55 kilometers.

This element of the competition was first introduced into the competition program in 2020.

Crews acted in pairs. The leading crew had to visually locate the search point on the terrain, indicated by a conventional sign. Then, in hover mode, using a winch, lower the dummy to an accuracy of 2 by 2 meters, and then lift it aboard, indicating the evacuation. The slave is to detect a radio signal in a given area and transmit the coordinates of the signal as accurately as possible.

“The total operating time of the helicopter in the zone is 12 minutes. The lead crew is evaluated according to four elements – the time of object detection, the correctness and reliability of the sign on the ground about the necessary assistance, the time to complete the search and rescue operations and the accuracy of lowering the dummy into the test square measuring 2 by 2 meters. Exceeding the established time standards is fined, ”said the judge of the competition, Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Dmitrishin.

“During the competition, all the crews demonstrate their high level of skill, fitness and high professional skills in those elements that are included in the competition,” he stressed.

At this stage, three pairs of Mi-8 transport and combat helicopters from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus competed.

“Search and rescue work is one of the main types of work of transport and combat helicopters. For Mi-8 crews, this is one of the main types of flight training. This is how we test the skills of army aviation pilots, ”summed up Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Dmitrishin.

According to the results of the first three stages of the competition (aerial reconnaissance, piloting technique, navigation), the Russian team is confidently leading.

The final stage of the competition will be the combat use of aviation weapons against ground targets.
