Experts suggest that the number of lizards has increased due to favorable weather and a decrease in the number of visitors in remote parts of the park.

The nimble (agile) lizard, listed in the Red Book of Moscow under the first category, is gradually expanding its habitat in the Kuzminki-Lyublino Natural Historical Park. Specialists Mosprirody note an increase in the population of the species, especially young individuals.

Perhaps we are talking about the usual fluctuation in numbers. In addition, several favorable factors could have influenced the increase in the population. These are both dry, hot summer months in the past two years, and a decrease in the number of visitors in remote parts of the park due to restrictions imposed last year due to the pandemic.

Nimble lizards are a type of small reptile of different colors: they are brown, green or gray. The green ones are more often males, and the young females are brown. The length of these lizards, together with the tail, reaches an average of 25 centimeters, the largest individuals – 35 centimeters. Moreover, 60 percent of the length falls on the tail.

These diurnal animals have a well-developed sense of smell and sight, and they use the tongue to touch. Lizards got their name for the ability to move quickly, changing direction. They can jump after their prey (fly). Nimble lizards are able to move through trees, but more often they stay in open spaces – glades and meadows.

These reptiles are known for their unique ability for autotomy, that is, for dropping their tail. It continues to wriggle for some time, distracting the attention of the predator. The regrown tail is usually darker in color, with a different scale pattern and shape.

Today in Moscow there are 569 species of unique flora and fauna, which are carefully protected and restored.
