On the section between Begovaya and Savelovskaya stations, two additional tracks will be built and a comprehensive modernization of the railway infrastructure will be carried out. This is necessary to launch the promising fourth Moscow Central Diameter (MCD-4 “Kievsko-Gorkovsky”). It is planned that the specialists will start the main work in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Savelovskaya – Begovaya line has already exhausted its capacity. Without its modernization, it is impossible to launch traffic on MCD-4, as well as to increase the number of trains on MCD-1 in the future.

Today trains run on two tracks, during the work they will lay down two more, and the existing ones will be updated. The length of the section is five kilometers – this is twice as much as the Kurskaya-Kalanchevskaya section of MCD-2, which is also being actively developed today for the launch of MCD-4.

Long and complex diameter

To create MCD-4, it is necessary to connect two independent railway radii – the Gorky and Kiev directions. Therefore, complex work is now being carried out in several areas at the same time. They include:

– construction of a double-track connecting line with three stations between the Kiev and Belorussky directions of the Moscow Railway;

– renovation of existing stations and construction of new ones, as well as the creation of additional tracks in the Kiev direction of the Moscow Railway;

– large-scale reconstruction of the Kalanchevskaya – Kurskaya section, with the Kalanchevskaya station being transformed into a modern transport hub;

– modernization of the Kurskaya – Nizhegorodskaya section, which includes the construction of two additional platforms and a new underground passenger lobby at the Kursk railway station, as well as the creation of the Serp and Molot transport hub. It will appear on the border of the Tagansky and Lefortovo districts and will unite MCD-2, MCD-4, the Ploschad Ilyicha station of the Kalininskaya metro line and the Rimskaya station of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya metro line.

Thanks to MCD-4 “Kievsko-Gorkovsky”, a new railway line 86 kilometers long will appear, which will connect the stations Aprelevka Kievsky direction of the Moscow Railways and Zheleznodorozhnaya Gorkovsky direction of the Moscow Railways. There will also be a new through route that will run from west to east through Moscow and connect seven railway stations in the capital. Muscovites will have many convenient alternative routes, including 18 stations with 35 options for transfers to metro stations, MCC and other diameters.

The first diameters – MCD-1 “Belorussko-Savelovsky” (Odintsovo – Lobnya) and MCD-2 “Kursko-Rizhsky” (Nakhabino – Podolsk) – were opened in the fall of 2019.

At the moment, three more diameters are being designed and built: MCD-3 “Leningradsko-Kazansky” (from Zelenograd to Ramenskoye), MCD-4 “Kievsko-Gorkovsky” (from Aprelevka to Zheleznodorozhny) and MCD-5 “Yaroslavsko-Paveletsky” (from Pushkin to Domodedovo).
