Experts have completely cleared the reservoir of silt deposits, strengthened the coastal strip and restored the lawn.

Reconstruction of the Zabolotye pond has been completed in the Severny area. It is located in the Dolgie Prudy Park.

From a pond with an area of 6900 square meters, Mosvodostok specialists have extracted more than eight thousand cubic meters of silt and 5.5 thousand cubic meters of soil, put in order the coastal strip along the perimeter of the reservoir.

The reconstruction of the pond was needed for several reasons. In late spring and summer, the pond was actively overgrown with aquatic vegetation. This led to active accumulation of silt deposits at the bottom and accelerated shallowing. In addition, the banks of the reservoir did not have clear outlines and were heavily swampy.

“Work on the restoration of the pond as a place of public recreation for residents of the Severny district began in August 2020 and ended in mid-2021. During this time, specialists have completely cleared the reservoir of silt deposits to prevent intensive overgrowth, put in order the coastal strip, making a fortification of natural material – larch, which is gaining additional strength over the years. At the final stage, restoration of the lawn and planting of greenery has been completed, ”said Vladimir Yavorsky, Deputy Director General of the Mosvodostok State Unitary Enterprise.

Aquatic ecosystem: how Moscow monitors the cleanliness of ponds

The Zabolotye Pond got its name from the former estate, which was located in this place in the 18th-19th centuries and belonged to several generations of the Shakhovsky princes. The decorative reservoir in the Dolgie Prudy Park is important as a recreational area for local residents. Citizens from other parts of the city can get to the reservoir from the nearest stations MCD-1 Novodachnaya and Mark.

This year Mosvodostok will carry out the same work in the north-east of the capital at Lazorev, Kola, Kapustinsky and Medvedkovsky ponds.
