In addition, it was decided to name the museum with the art collection “City Art Gallery of Pavel and Sergei Mikhailovich Tretyakov”. The Duma’s petition about this reached the Emperor Alexander III, who allowed the new museum to be named in honor of the Tretyakovs.

In December 1896, 65 vowels of the Moscow City Duma filed an application with a request to confer the title of “Honorary Citizen of the City of Moscow” on Pavel Tretyakov. On January 23, 1897, this was followed by the highest permission.
