D. Chernyshenko: “New sports facilities are being built in the capital of the Urals especially for the Universiade, where competitions in 18 sports will be held.”

Dmitry Chernyshenko and Evgeny Kuyvashev discussed preparations for the Universiade-2023

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko met with the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Yevgeny Kuyvashev. The main topic of the workshop was the preparation of the region for the XXXII World Summer Universiade 2023.

“Especially for the Universiade, new sports facilities are being built in the capital of the Urals, where competitions in 18 sports will be held. This year the Volleyball Academy of Nikolai Karpol has already been commissioned. The construction of the Universiade Village, the Center for Rhythmic and Aesthetic Gymnastics, judo and sambo palaces continues. It is necessary to ensure strict control of their construction schedules; delays should not be allowed. The facilities must be completed on time, ”said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The Vice Prime Minister also noted that in preparation for the Universiade in Yekaterinburg, work was organized on medical and media support for the Games, organizing food and transport for guests and participants of the competitions, as well as ensuring security.

“The whole range of work is being carried out in accordance with the decisions made, taking into account the proposals given at the meetings of the federal and regional organizing committees. For the Games, 31 sports facilities will be involved, including 9 new ones. In accordance with the requirements of FISU, it is necessary to bring 22 existing sports facilities into a standard state, ”Yevgeny Kuyvashev said.

During the meeting, Dmitry Chernyshenko and Yevgeny Kuyvashev also discussed specific steps to create an information and communication infrastructure for the Universiade.

The World Student Games will be held in Yekaterinburg from 8 to 19 August 2023. The competitive program includes competitions in 18 sports, during which 246 sets of medals will be played.

The decision to hold the Universiade in Yekaterinburg was made on July 2, 2019 by the Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Russia will host the Summer Universiade for the second time. The last time the competition was held in Kazan was in 2013. In addition, Moscow hosted the 1973 Summer Universiade. In 2019, Krasnoyarsk was the capital of the Winter Universiade.
