In 2024, the volume of coal exports from Kuzbass should amount to 68 million tons. This was stated by First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov at a meeting with representatives of coal mining companies in Kuzbass, according to the government’s website.

According to him, 53 million tons are currently being exported from the Eastern landfill. One of the main topics of the meeting was the strategic issue of transport support for the export of coal products from Kuzbass, which provides over 67 percent of Russian coal exports.

“We understand very well that the possibilities of exporting coal from Kuzbass and from the territory of the Far East largely determine the development of the coal industry. We have defined clear plans by the end of 2024 for the development of the Eastern Test Site, which is key in this regard. And within the framework of these plans, the volumes of coal export from Kuzbass were recorded in tons. If now 53 million tons are exported under the agreement, then in 2024 this figure should grow to 68 million tons, “Belousov said.

The meeting participants separately emphasized the export potential of the region in terms of expanding supplies to the Asian region.

Asia consumes more than 5 billion tons of coal per year, while imports are about 500 million tons, of which 112 million are supplied by Russia, the report says.
