Specialists from the engineering troops of the Western Military District (ZVO) first used massive mining during a special exercise in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The placement of TM-62 anti-tank mines was carried out using modern tracked minelayers GMZ as part of a massive mobile detachment. The calculations of military engineers conducted the first training, which showed a positive result of the simultaneous operation of 12 minelayers.

During the laying of minefields, special attention was paid to joint work with tank and motorized rifle units of the Guards Combined Arms Army of the Western Military District on the battlefield to change the direction of movement of the imaginary enemy’s troops and destroy advancing reserves.

GMZ tracked minelayer is capable of setting 208 mines with a mining step of 4.5 and 5 meters, up to 3 or 4 rows deep at a distance of more than a kilometer of a minefield.

In total, during the exercise, the GMZ minelayers installed over 3 thousand anti-tank mines, more than 600 military personnel were involved, as well as about 200 pieces of weapons, military and special equipment, including BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles, T- tanks. 72B3.
