Participants of the “Active Citizen” project can choose one of five names, such as “Setun”, “Zhuzha”, “Yauza”, “Titmouse” or “Neglinka”.
Participants of the “Active Citizen” project will choose a name for the first Moscow electric river tram.
Muscovites can vote for one of five names, such as Setun, Zhuzha, Yauza, Titmouse or Neglinka. These options turned out to be the most popular on water transport website, where the residents of the capital left their ideas all summer. They also suggested naming river trams after the Moscow rivers.
In 2022, the city plans to open two regular routes: Fili Park – Kievsky Railway Station and Avtozavodsky Most – Pechatniki. At first they will work in test mode.
“In 2022, we will gradually organize two river routes and, 16 years later, we will return the beloved water transport to Muscovites. Already next year, electric ships will deliver citizens to the other side of the Moskva River faster than any other public transport. So, for two months, we collected ideas for the development of river transport and proposals on how to name the first fully electric river tram – we decided to put the most popular names to a vote in Active Citizen, so that the winner would be chosen by residents of the city, future passengers of our eco-vessels “, – said
Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, Head Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development.
“The new eco-friendly river tram will reduce travel time and admire Moscow from an unusual perspective. It is especially convenient that for travel it will be possible to use the Troika card, which is also valid in other types of Moscow transport. Project participants who help to choose a name for the first tram will receive points. And they can also be spent on replenishing the Troika card in the Active Citizen reward store, “said Alexander Pischelko, head of the New Management Technologies State Institution responsible for the development of the Active Citizen project.
The Moscow electric river tram will be the first electric boat in the world to carry passengers all year round on regular routes. Such transport will be in high demand among residents of coastal areas: this will reduce travel time for them. For example, the journey from Fili Park to the Verkhniye Mnevniki pier by bus will take 65 minutes, while on the new water tram this time will be reduced by five times.
Each tram will have 42 comfortable seats, including seats for people with disabilities. Information screens, USB chargers, Wi-Fi, places for scooters and bicycles, and tables for working with a laptop will be installed in the salon. Each tram is designed for a powerful flow of passengers – up to 16 thousand passengers a day. The vessels will be 100 percent environmentally friendly, without harmful emissions – this is very important for the Moscow water area and the health of citizens.
It will be possible to pay for travel with a Troika card, a bank card or using a biometric system. For passengers – holders of tickets for 90/365 days travel will be even more profitable – transfer to the ship will be completely free for them.
The river tram first appeared in Moscow in 1923; in the 1960s, it was in great demand. And in 2006, water transport stopped working on a regular basis, and only walking trips remained. Next year it is planned to revive river transport capital Cities. To do this, we carried out analytical work in conjunction with the National Research University Higher School of Economics and identified several city routes.
