The reservoirs are ready for the uninterrupted supply of the city.
Despite the hot summer, all the reservoirs of the capital’s system are ready to meet the needs of the townspeople in clean water. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Peter Biryukov.
“At present, the reservoirs of the Moskvoretsko-Vazuzskaya and Volzhskaya water systems are filled to the required levels, the created reserves are sufficient to ensure guaranteed water supply to the city regardless of weather conditions,” the deputy mayor said.
The Moskvoretsko-Vazuzskaya and Volzhskaya water systems include 15 reservoirs in the Moscow, Smolensk and Tver regions. From these, water enters the water treatment plant. There are four of them in the capital – Rublevskaya, North, West and East.
“The abnormal summer heat did not become an obstacle to the uninterrupted provision of Moscow residents with clean drinking water,” stressed Pyotr Biryukov. “Thanks to the competent actions of the specialists of the municipal economy complex, the flood and high water after a snowy winter have been successfully passed”.
In the city’s distribution network, specialists have strengthened control over water quality, including taking samples at additional points. In addition, on the eve of the autumn-winter season, preventive flushing of the nets is carried out.
“Every day the capital consumes 2.8 million cubic meters of water, more than 13 thousand kilometers of water supply networks have been laid in the city. This huge system needs constant monitoring, – said the vice mayor. “Today, the state of tap water is analyzed according to 184 physical, chemical, microbiological and hydrobiological indicators at all stages of its journey to the consumer.”
At water treatment stations, water quality is monitored around the clock and, if necessary, the technology of water treatment is timely adjusted. So, they can change the doses of reagent treatment, introduce additional cleaning with powdered activated carbon, and more often wash sand and carbon filters. Only in the first half of this year, the quality of tap water was checked more than a million times.
