Together with the Volgograd search engines and the Yunarmeys, the work was carried out by representatives of search groups from the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Ulyanovsk, Saratov, Arkhangelsk, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk, Samara, Sverdlovsk, Irkutsk regions, Tatarstan, Dagestan, Lugansk, France and the Military Academy of the RK Union S.K. Tymoshenko. More than 300 search engines took part in the three stages of the expedition from April to August.
They were greatly supported by the regional branches of DOSAAF and RVIO, the Committee for Youth Policy and Tourism of the Volgograd Administration and the city center of patriotic education “Victoria”.
At the first stage, in the area of the Kuzmichi settlement, the search engines raised the remains of 74 soldiers and commanders of the Red Army. It was possible to establish the remains of one of them – Ivan Petrovich Likhachev, born in 1907, a native of the Perm Territory – and to find his relatives. Presumably the remains of Gennady Aleksandrovich Markov, born in 1923, have been established. and junior lieutenant Yevgeny Pavlovich Starykh, born in 1924 Several medallions were found, which are now being processed.
The second stage of the expedition took place in June. As the chairman of the council of commanders of the search organization “Heritage” Denis Solovyov explained to us, the search activities in it were of a purely intelligence nature. The forces of the search groups of Volgograd and the region carried out preliminary reconnaissance measures to determine the place of the forthcoming search work.
At the final stage of the expedition, in the area of the Verkhny Gniloy farm, the search engines raised the remains of 15 Soviet soldiers, found a purse with documents and a tank medallion, which may help to identify the crew members of the tank.
The closing of the interregional search expedition, timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad, was held in a solemn atmosphere, and the Last Order ceremony was held in memory of the fallen defenders of Stalingrad.
