As part of the celebrations timed to coincide with the 76th anniversary of the end of World War II, the liberation of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, a theatrical performance “The Victory Train” took place in the city of Kholmsk.

This event took place for the first time last year and was very much appreciated by the guests and residents of the island region. To the accompaniment of solemn music and joyful exclamations, an impromptu meeting with the wives and mothers of the soldiers-liberators who had come home from the front and had not seen their loved ones for many years at the railway crossing on Morskaya Street took place.

They arrived by train, decorated in accordance with the spirit of the time. It was a very bright and exciting picture – a meeting of soldiers from the front after the war.

Then a rally “Echo of War” took place in the Heroes Park. Among its participants was 94-year-old Nikolai Stupak – a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a holder of the Orders of Glory 2 and 3 degrees, the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Patriotic War 2 degrees, the first honorary citizen of the city of Kholmsk, Sakhalin Region.
