Today, one of the most unique formations of its kind in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the 38th Guards Command Brigade of the Airborne Forces, stationed in Medvezhye Ozyory near Moscow, celebrates its 74th anniversary.
The solemn event dedicated to this significant date was held on the parade ground of a military unit under the leadership of the commander of the guard unit, Colonel Viktor Babikov.
The most distinguished servicemen were awarded certificates and medals. At the end of the rally, the servicemen marched in a solemn march.
During its existence, the connection has come a long way of difficult tests.
On August 3, 1947, in the city of Polotsk, Belorussian SSR, on the basis of the communications center of the 8th Guards Airborne Neman Red Banner Corps and the 13th Guards Separate Signal Company of the 103rd Guards Airborne Division, the formation of the 191st Separate Signal Battalion began.
By September 4, 1947, the formation of the battalion was completed, and it became part of the 8th Guards Airborne Neman Red Banner Corps. This day is considered the part’s annual holiday.
On April 21, 1956, the formation of the 691st separate communications battalion of the Airborne Forces (Airborne Forces) began, which ended on June 22 of the same year.
In August 1972, the formation of a communications regiment began. The basis for the formation of the regiment was the 691st separate communications battalion of the Airborne Forces and the mobile communications center of the 879th communications center. The formation was completed on December 20, 1972 and the regiment was named “196th separate airborne communications regiment”.
In 1983, by order of the commander of the Airborne Forces, the unit was awarded the Challenge Red Banner of the Airborne Forces.
In 1988, for the successes achieved in socialist competition among the Airborne Forces units and high military discipline, the regiment was awarded a diploma of the Commander of the Airborne Forces.
On December 30, 1990, the 196th separate communications regiment was reorganized into the 171st separate communications brigade of the Airborne Forces.
On May 9, 1995, for participation in the jubilee parade dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the regiment was awarded a diploma of the President of the Russian Federation. Among the officers and warrant officers of the unit, 11 people took part in the fulfillment of their international duty in Afghanistan.
On February 1, 1997, the 171st Separate Signal Brigade was reorganized into the 38th Separate Signal Regiment of the Airborne Forces.
In March 1997, the regiment took part in the exercise of the 106th Guards Airborne Division, conducted by the commander of the Airborne Forces. At the same time, the personnel showed high training, organization, the ability to act in difficult conditions, as close as possible to combat ones.
Units of the brigade were located in the groupings of troops in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, where they successfully performed tasks of organizing communications.
Most of the regiment’s officers and warrant officers took part in the implementation of the tasks of the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus, for which many were awarded government awards.
On the basis of the brigade, on the initiative of the former chief of communications of the Airborne Forces, Major General A.G. Taratuto. the Council of Veterans of the Signal Troops of the Airborne Forces was created. Veterans provide significant assistance in organizing combat and military-political training for various categories of servicemen.
On the territory of the brigade, days of the conscript are often held, during which future soldiers have the opportunity to get acquainted with the models of weapons and military equipment, the means of landing, the specifics of the service and life of the personnel.
By the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of March 25, 2015 No. 157, the regiment (now a brigade) was given the honorary name “Guards”.
In 2018, the 38th separate communications regiment of the Airborne Forces was transformed into the 38th Guards Command Brigade of the Airborne Forces.
