Citizens can choose the format of assistance that is convenient for themselves – become a volunteer or help with money.

September 5 is the International Day of Charity. Grant aid has become an integral part of citizens’ lives, and social projects are attracting more and more activists. Muscovites make donations, become mentors for people with disabilities, visit animal shelters and take their inhabitants home. The volunteers themselves spoke about the variety of volunteer work on the eve of the holiday.

Save homeless animals from hunger

To become an assistant to animal protection organizations, you do not need to have special skills. It only takes love for animals and free time. Muscovite Anastasia Rastopshina joined the #Feed project of the Urban Animal Protection Fund a year ago. He appeared in the midst of a pandemic to save stray animals from starvation. To collect food, the foundation installed special boxes in shopping centers, educational institutions and other public places, and also organized fundraising on the website. The fund’s volunteers regularly collect food and donations, and then distribute them to the districts and districts of Moscow.

“I work in the South Port area of the South-Eastern District and know how many stray dogs and cats live here. To help them, I receive food from the fund, arrange dinners for the tailed beasts and send photo reports to the coordinators. I also take part in sterilization activities: I call a catcher who will take the animal to the veterinarian, and after the operation will return it back to its usual habitat. Plus, my pets will have a new friend in a month and a half – I’m taking the dog out of overexposure! ” – said Anastasia.

Become a friend for special people

Professionals who are ready to donate help to foundations also become volunteers. This type of volunteering is called pro bono. Alla Svenchanskaya is a children’s massage therapist. A year and a half ago, she became a volunteer for the Love Syndrome Foundation, where she met an 18-year-old girl named Lyuba with Down syndrome.

“During our first meeting, Lyuba turned her back on me, but when I asked if she would meet, she unexpectedly hugged me tightly. At this moment, everything inside me turned upside down: such people are always extremely sincere in the manifestation of feelings, so you, too, try not to bend your heart by helping them. This is how the story of our friendship began, ”the woman shared her feelings.

After six months of training, Alla Viktorovna was entrusted to accompany Lyuba in the classroom, in the store or on the street. In addition, they talk on the phone practically every day. Thanks to the efforts of relatives, doctors and the help of a volunteer, Lyuba is well developed, speaks, does needlework and loves to be creative.

Helping women in difficult situations

Often, the decision to help a particular fund comes spontaneously, for example, after watching a social video or broadcast on social networks. The history of the Women for Life Foundation, which helps women in difficult life situations, inspired Diana Ushakova. “After watching the broadcast with the participation of the founder of the fund, Natalia Moskvitina, I signed up for a volunteer school. After training, I took up supporting women. I also collect things for moms and babies in need. These are boxes with sets for newborns, a dowry for babies: diapers, diapers, bath foams, bonnets, sliders and other useful things, ”she said.

You can also support projects of non-profit organizations with the help of a charity service.… Today, 50 proven funds have already joined it, which help seriously ill people, people with disabilities, low-income families, animals and many others… Since the start of the service in October last year, more than 12.4 thousand people have already made donations for good deeds. The registered users can transfer funds. To do this, you need to select a charitable organization, indicate the amount of the donation and click the “Donate” button. Disbursement reports can be viewed on the website “Soulful Moscow”.

The charity service is one of the first such projects. It was created in 2020 at the initiative of Moscow non-profit organizations. The Department of Information Technologies and the Committee for Public Relations and Youth Policy worked on the project with the support of the Public Chamber of the city. The service has already gained recognition abroad. In June 2021, he won the CIPR Digital Award for Best Digital Service. Earlier, he was awarded the BIG Innovation Awards and the German Innovation Award.
