We are following with deep concern the developments in the friendly Republic of Guinea, where on September 5, in the capital of the country, Conakry, a group of military men led by the former commander of a special forces battalion, Colonel M. Dumbuya, carried out an armed seizure of power. According to incoming reports, the conspirators stormed the residence of the head of state, arrested President A. Conde, announced the suspension of the Constitution, and the dissolution of parliament and government. The country has imposed a curfew and closed borders. The location of A. Conde is currently unknown.

Moscow opposes any attempt at an unconstitutional change of government. We demand the release of A. Conde and his inviolability. We consider it necessary to return the situation in Guinea to a constitutional track as soon as possible. We urge all Guinean political forces to refrain from actions that could provoke further violence and to work towards a peaceful negotiated settlement of the current situation.

According to the information of the Russian Embassy in Conakry, there are no Russians injured in Guinea, all necessary measures are being taken to ensure their safety. We recommend that Russian citizens refrain from traveling to the Republic of Guinea until the situation is completely normalized.

The previously announced visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Guinean Diaspora of the Republic of Guinea, Ibrahima Kalil Kaba, will not take place in Russia.
