The section has built and reconstructed 3.7 kilometers of roads.
Traffic was opened on the section of the North-Eastern Expressway (TSW) linking the Otkrytoye and Yaroslavskoye Highways with a traffic intersection at the intersection of the TSW with Prospekt Mira (Yaroslavskoye Shosse).
“The Northeast Expressway is the largest city highway. It connects seven key highways of the city, 15 streets, runs from Businovskaya interchange to Kosinskaya, to Nekrasovka, from the St. Petersburg toll road to the road to Kazan under construction. Today, two more sections have been opened, connecting the Otkrytoye and Yaroslavskoye highways. And there was only one section left. This is a section connecting Dmitrovskoe and Yaroslavskoe shosse, which we should launch next year, and the North-East Expressway will be ready. Until 2023, we, together with our colleagues from the Ministry of Transport, will connect a new road under construction to Kazan and the North-Eastern Expressway in Nekrasovka, but the city highway itself will be fully operational next year, ”said Sergei Sobyanin.
The Moscow Mayor also awarded the builders who participated in the construction of the section of the North-East Expressway.
As part of the new section, 12.4 kilometers of roads were built, including six overpasses (4.6 kilometers), the Bogorodsky overpass across the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) (311 meters), and an underground pedestrian crossing near the Belokamennaya MCC station.
The transport interchange at the intersection of the North-East Expressway with Prospekt Mira is a large multi-level artificial structure. It will provide a comfortable traffic-free movement of cars not only along the temporary storage warehouse, but also along the Yaroslavl highway. In addition, the load on the Yaroslavskoye Highway, the northeastern section of the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) and Yeniseyskaya Street will be reduced. Transport services for over 350 thousand residents of the Sviblovo, Yaroslavsky, Rostokino, Metrogorodok and Bogorodskoye districts will be improved.
The construction of the section of the North-Eastern Expressway, which connects the Otkrytoye and Yaroslavskoye Highways, began in August last year. The work was completed two months ahead of the contract deadline – in September 2021. The section has built and reconstructed 3.7 kilometers of roads. This includes a 3.1-kilometer main chord course (three lanes in each direction), exits to adjacent streets (276 meters), Bogorodsky overpass (311 meters) and two railway overpasses at the intersection with the Yaroslavl direction of the Moscow Railway (MZhD) ) (296 meters). In addition, an underground passage was built in the area of the MCC Belokamennaya station.
The territory nearby was also improved. They planted 1,744 trees (willow, maple, linden, mountain ash) and 9,535 shrubs (turf, spirea, bubblegum), laid out 9.1 hectares of lawns.
The specialists also completed the installation of 26 kilometers of utilities and built a treatment facility. By the end of the year, it is planned to install 5.7 kilometers of protective screens.
The construction of a traffic intersection at the intersection of the North-Eastern Expressway with Mira Avenue began in 2019, and was completed in September 2021 – six months ahead of schedule.
8.7 kilometers of roads appeared here, including several large flyovers. The six-lane overpass, which is 1.1 kilometers long, will provide traffic along the main course of the North-Eastern Expressway above Prospekt Mira and the tracks of the Yaroslavl direction of the Moscow Railway. Thanks to three turning overpasses, it will be possible to move off the main line of the expressway onto Yaroslavskoye Highway towards the region, from Yaroslavskoye Highway to the temporary storage warehouse when moving towards the center and from Prospekt Mira to the temporary storage warehouse in the direction of Otkrytoye Highway.
Also, within the framework of the project, the backup of the Yaroslavskoe highway was reconstructed, the side passages along the Mira Avenue were made wider (with the device of transitional speed lanes). In addition, the Serebryakova Passage from Prospect Mira to Wilhelm Pieck Street (935 meters) was expanded from two to three lanes in each direction.
To prevent the noise from disturbing the residents of the neighborhoods in the area of the Rostokino MCC station, experts installed protective screens 77 meters long. They also completed the re-laying and installation of 108 kilometers of utilities, and built a treatment facility.
By the end of this year, it is planned to complete the reconstruction of two underground pedestrian crossings on the Yaroslavskoe highway (near building 2, building 1) and Mira Avenue (near building 222, building 1). As part of the improvement, 7.1 hectares of lawns will be planted, 32 trees and 524 shrubs will be planted.
The northeastern expressway will run from the M11 Moscow – St. Petersburg highway to the Kosinskaya overpass, the interchange at the intersection of the Moscow Ring Road with the Veshnyaki – Lyubertsy highway and further to the M12 Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan highway under construction.
“This is the most important direction, the most important transport facility. It improves traffic in general in half of the city – in the east, north, northeast, allows transport to go directly, bypassing the Moscow Ring Road, improving traffic on the Moscow Ring Road and reducing traffic in the city center, ”Sergei Sobyanin emphasized.
Chorda will connect the Moscow Ring Road, Entuziastov Highway, Izmailovskoye, Shchelkovskoye, Otkrytoye, Yaroslavskoye, Altufevskoye and Dmitrovskoye highways. In addition, it will provide access to Festivalnaya, Selskokhozyaistvennaya, Amurskaya, Shcherbakovskaya, Perovskaya streets, Berezovaya alley, 3rd Nizhnelikhoborsky passage, Yunosti, Papernik streets and others – a total of 15 large streets. Thus, the temporary storage warehouse will provide a diagonal connection between the north, north-east, east and south-east of the capital. It will help reduce the traffic load on the center, the Third Transport Ring (TTK), the Moscow Ring Road and outbound routes. In the area of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street, the North-East Expressway connects with the North-West Expressway, in the Entuziastov Highway area – with the South-East Expressway.
The temporary storage warehouse route will pass through 26 city districts and 10 large industrial zones, which with its arrival will have an opportunity for development. The expressway will also provide access to 12 transport hubs, 21 metro and MCC stations, as well as to the platforms of MCD-1 and the promising MCD-3.
The total length of the main course of the temporary storage warehouse will be about 40 kilometers. Taking into account the ramps and reconstruction of the adjacent road network, about 120 kilometers of roads, 80 flyovers, bridges and tunnels (about 38 kilometers long) and 21 pedestrian crossings will be built.
Now the Northeast Expressway is 80 percent complete. Eight of 11 sections of the highway have been built with a total length of 88 kilometers of roads. This includes 62 overpasses (32 kilometers), a 480-meter tunnel, a 102-meter bridge, three overpasses (600 meters) and 14 pedestrian crossings.
Specialists are building sections from Dmitrovskoye to Yaroslavskoye highway and from Lukhmanovskaya street to Zeninskoye highway. In addition, the design of sections with a bridge across the Pekhorka River is underway to connect the temporary storage warehouse with the Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan highway with a total length of 32.6 kilometers. They are planned to be built by the end of 2023.
Moscow chord routes
The construction of the North-West, North-East, South-East Chords and South Roads is a key project for the development of Moscow’s street and road network inside the Moscow Ring Road. The total length of the four chords will be 138 kilometers (construction length is over 360 kilometers). This is comparable to the length of four TTKs. The chords will include 189 overpasses, tunnels and bridges, as well as 80 pedestrian crossings.
The Chords will improve the transport accessibility of 73 Moscow districts, including dozens of renovation blocks. They will connect the departing highways and reduce the congestion of interdistrict roads, the Third Transport Ring, the Moscow Ring Road. The average travel time in the city will be reduced by 20-25 percent – thanks to the organization of traffic-free traffic on most sections of highways and the redistribution of traffic flows. Chords will also provide additional exits from the city to federal highways.
As of September this year, 205 kilometers of roads (65 percent) have been commissioned, including 108 artificial structures and 55 pedestrian crossings. The construction of the North-West Expressway (83 kilometers, 32 artificial structures, 30 pedestrian crossings) has been fully completed.
In addition, traffic has already been opened on eight sections of the North-East Expressway (88 kilometers of roads, 67 artificial structures, 14 pedestrian crossings) and three sections of the South Road (31.5 kilometers of roads, eight artificial structures, 11 pedestrian crossings).
New roads in Moscow
From 2011 to 2020, 1,033.3 kilometers of roads (18 percent of the total road network), 297 artificial structures and 254 off-street crossings were built in Moscow. This year it is planned to build another 85.3 kilometers of roads, 18 artificial structures and 14 pedestrian crossings.
The most significant objects are the bridge across the Skhodnya River (as part of the reconstruction of Volokolamskoe Highway on the section from the Moscow Ring Road to the Skhodnya River), the road network to the sports and recreation center on the territory of the Mnevnikovskaya floodplain, the M3 Ukraine road Serednevo – Maryino – Desna, as well as the main street of regional significance, the city of Moskovsky – the Filatov Lug metro station. Their commissioning is scheduled for 2021.
Since the beginning of this year, the construction of 50.9 kilometers of roads, 22 artificial structures and 17 pedestrian crossings has been completed. Among them – an overpass at the intersection of 1st Sovetskaya Street with the tracks of the Belarusian direction of the Moscow Railways near the Zhavoronki railway platform, a transport interchange at the intersection of the temporary storage warehouse with the 5th passage of Podbelskoye and Otkrytye shosse. An overpass has also been built across the MCD-2 railway tracks on the South-Eastern Expressway (SEVH) section (from Ryazansky Prospekt to the Third Transport Ring), a temporary storage warehouse section (from Losinoostrovskaya Street to Yaroslavskoye Shosse) and a traffic interchange at the intersection with Prospekt Mira.
The plans for 2022–2023 are to build 188 kilometers of roads, 70 artificial structures and 37 pedestrian crossings. The key project for the coming years is the construction of new chord highways: temporary storage warehouse, SEA and Yuzhnaya rokada.
