On the facade of the building of the Astrakhan regional branch of DOSAAF of Russia, within the framework of the Lesson of Courage, a solemn opening of a memorial plaque in honor of Hero of the Soviet Union Stepan Savelyevich Odnovorchenko and a memorial plaque of DOSAAF took place. The event was attended by deputies, veterans, government officials, and youth soldiers.

Stepan Savelyevich Odnovorchenko was born on September 13, 1914 into a peasant family. From 1935 he served in the Red Army. Before the war, in 1939, he graduated from the Voroshilovgrad Military Aviation Pilot School. Since October 20, 1942, he fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War: Volkhov, Leningrad and 3rd Baltic. In 1943, Stepan Savelyevich took part in breaking the blockade of Leningrad.

By July 1944, he made 99 sorties to attack defensive structures, airfields, railway echelons, and enemy troop concentrations.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 23, 1945, for the exemplary fulfillment of combat missions of the command on the front of the struggle against the Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time, Major Odnovorchenko Stepan Savelyevich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal “.

After the war, the officer continued to serve in the Air Force in command positions. From 1955 to 1958 he headed the Astrakhan flying club DOSAAF. In 1958, Lieutenant Colonel Odnovorchenko resigned. In 1991, Stepan Savelyevich died and was buried in his native Astrakhan.

After the end of the ceremony, the guests had the opportunity to visit exhibitions of pupils of the sections and circles of DOSAAF. One of the expositions was devoted to the search movement.
