Servicemen of foreign military contingents from 7 countries arrived to participate in the joint strategic Russian-Belarusian exercise (SSU) “West-2021” in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

About 500 servicemen of Armenia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka flew by military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces to the autonomous field camp of the combat training center of the Western Military District and began accepting weapons, military and special equipment, as well as preparing for a joint exercise.

Over the course of five days, foreign military contingents will familiarize themselves with the sites for joint exercises, carry out zeroing of weapons and military equipment, in particular T-72B3 tanks, BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as Ak-74M assault rifles, RPG-7V grenade launchers and PKM machine guns …

The first joint training of foreign military contingents before the active phase of the joint strategic exercise “West-2021” began on September 6. Servicemen will be able to work out interaction with the use of the received weapons as part of battalion tactical groups together with Russian servicemen.

The joint strategic Russian-Belarusian exercise (SSU) “West-2021” is the final stage of joint training of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation and is held every two years in accordance with the decision made by the heads of the two states.

Practical actions of troops (forces) take place at five training grounds of the Republic of Belarus and at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation.

About 200 thousand people, more than 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, incl. over 290 tanks, over 240 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars, up to 15 ships. Of these, 12,800 people (including up to 2,500 Russian military personnel), more than 30 aircraft and helicopters, up to 350 units of military equipment (including about 140 tanks, up to 110 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars) are involved in exercises on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. The exercise also involves about 2 thousand servicemen from the member states of the CSTO, SCO and other friendly countries.
