On September 5, the President of the Presidential Council of Libya, Muhammad Menfi, announced the launch of a comprehensive nationwide reconciliation project in the country. As part of this initiative, the youngest son of the ousted Libyan leader M. Gaddafi Saadi has already been released from a prison in Tripoli. Also, M. Gaddafi’s associate Naji Harira, his former personal secretary Ahmed Ramadan, as well as other political prisoners who fully served their terms, were in captivity without a court verdict, or were acquitted, were also released from the places of detention in Misrata. Reportedly, the rest of the prisoners from the circle of the former leader of the Jamahiriya will also be released in the near future.

In addition, it became known about the agreement reached between representatives of the city of Misrata and the elders of the Al-Qaddaf and Al-Mujabar tribes on the transfer of the remains of M. Qaddafi, his son Muatasim and former Defense Minister A. Jaber for reburial. Despite the fact that 10 years have passed since the death of M. Gaddafi, the location of his grave for a long time remained a secret, known only to a narrow group of people.

We welcome this timely decision by the Libyan Presidential Council. We hope that the release of the son and closest associates of Gaddafi, as well as the reburial of the remains of the former leader of the country, will help the Libyans overcome the burden of mutual grievances and acute contradictions that have accumulated over many years of bloody internal conflict, will become an important step towards common Libyan reconciliation and the restoration of long-awaited peace. and stability in this traditionally friendly state to us.
