More than 200 cadets of the district training center of the Central Military District (CVD) on the eve of the Day of the tankman mastered underwater driving of tanks at the waterdrome in the Sverdlovsk region.

In the course of overcoming the water obstacle, the crews submerged to a depth of 3.5 meters and crossed a body of water about 200 meters wide. In the conditions of a complete lack of visibility and visual reference points, the driver mechanics controlled the tanks using special devices – gyrocompass, which are designed to determine the direction of movement of combat vehicles under water. In addition, the cadets of the training center worked out actions to evacuate personnel and equipment in the event of a tank sinking.

For admission to underwater driving, the tankers underwent a course of light diving training, during which, on a special flooded model of the tank, they worked out the standards for using an insulating gas mask and leaving a combat vehicle when the engine was stopped.

The District Training Center of the Central Military District is the largest educational institution in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for the training of junior specialists for combined arms units. The Center is armed with T-72B3 tanks and BTR-82A armored personnel carriers.
