For the first time, a mobile anti-unmanned aircraft group from a motorized rifle unit of the 58th combined-arms army of the Southern Military District (YuVO) was involved in a bilateral battalion tactical exercise together with a unit of the Black Sea Fleet at a combined-arms training ground in the Chechen Republic.

Servicemen of the Southern Military District applied new methods of dealing with low-flying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Gvardeisky training ground. The unit within the mobile group identified the target, classified it and hit it from the Osa-AKM anti-aircraft missile system.

After completing the task, the TDA-2 smoke machine was used to cover the change in positions of the mobile group. She created aerosol camouflage over a section of more than four kilometers along the front.

Also, electronic warfare specialists performed electromagnetic camouflage of artillery positions from unmanned aircraft. With the help of the Zhitel jamming stations, the servicemen worked out actions to disable enemy satellite reconnaissance and radio communications.

The new methodology was developed taking into account the combat experience gained during counter-terrorism operations in Syria. At the test site, special targets were equipped, suspended at a height between two poles and moving between them using electronic motors, thereby simulating the flight of a drone.

More than 200 pieces of equipment were involved in the exercise, including T-72B3 tanks, BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, Sani towed mortars, Lynx armored vehicles, KamAZ-5350 vehicles, Msta-B towed artillery mounts, armored personnel carriers BTR-82A.
