Five premieres, three exhibitions and one very important anniversary evening.

In the “Pyotr Fomenko Workshop” a gathering of the troupe took place, dedicated to the opening of the new 29th season. The artistic director of the theater Yevgeny Kamenkovich and the artists discussed plans until next summer. Read more in the mos.ru article.

An important date falls on the new season: July 13, 2022 will mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of the theater founder. The director of the festive evening dedicated to Pyotr Fomenko will be Ivan Popovski. Evgeny Kamenkovich stressed that although there are no exact plans for the celebration yet, it should be a fantastic finale of the season.

This fall, theater audiences will see two premieres. In the second half of September, a show of the play “The Ark” based on the play by Vadim Volya, written especially for the theater, is scheduled. Director Oleg Glushkov took over the production. Actors of all generations of the troupe are involved in the play, which will be performed on the big stage of the theater.

In November 2021, the premiere of the play by Maya Dorozhenko, a graduate of Sergei Zhenovach’s workshop at GITIS, will take place. For her directorial debut at the Pyotr Fomenko Workshop, she chose the texts of Roman Mikhailov, a mathematician, writer and director. The future performance is based on stories from the collection “Berries”. There is no exact date for the premiere yet.

Work on four more new productions is scheduled for the second half of the season. Evgeny Kamenkovich will stage the play “The Enchanting Movements of Water” based on Nikolai Leskov’s novel “Cathedrals. Old Town Chronicle “. Leskov’s novel, written in 1866-1872, tells about the last years of the life of two priests and a deacon in the fictional city of Stargorod. Artist Alexander Barmenkov and costume designer Maria Borovskaya will work with Kamenkovich on the performance.

Director Fyodor Malyshev will stage the play “Caligula”. The production will be based on the play Caligula (1944) by Albert Camus, in which events from the life and the image of the ancient Roman emperor are brought to the point of absurdity. Guy Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus or Caligula is known as the mad emperor and tyrant. The play covers the period between the death of Caligula’s beloved sister, Drusilla (AD 38), and his murder three years later. The production will be designed by Alexandra Dashevskaya.

Yegor Peregudov will present his version of Dangerous Liaisons (1782) by Choderlos de Laclos. The artist Vladimir Arefiev will help the director to transfer to the stage of the Pyotr Fomenko Workshop an epistolary novel cruelly ridiculing the customs of the French bourgeoisie of the 18th century.

Dmitry Krymov, who staged the play “Mozart. Don Juan. Dress Rehearsal ”, in May 2022 will begin rehearsals for a new production. Krymov’s performance, tentatively titled “Tales” based on Russian folk tales and the works of Andrei Platonov, will be seen in the next 30th season.

As usual, exhibitions will be held in the “Pyotr Fomenko Workshop” in the new season. This time they will all be united by the theme of architecture. The first is an exhibition of works by contemporary architect Sergei Tchoban. In winter, it will be replaced by a new exhibition dedicated to the works of the Soviet and Russian architect and one of the founders of the paper architecture direction, artist Alexander Brodsky. The third and last exhibition of the season will be an exhibition of works by the unique Soviet architect, artist, graphic artist, painter, theorist of architecture Yakov Chernikhov.

The 28th season has become significant for the theater – in the spring of 2021, the shooting of Sergei Osipyan’s film “Portrait of a Stranger”, in which all the actors of “Pyotr Fomenko’s Workshop” and some of its employees, played. The release of the nostalgic melodrama (the action of the film takes place in Moscow in 1974) is scheduled for November 11.
