Representatives of the Main Command of the Navy in St. Petersburg at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery took part in the ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths dedicated to
80th anniversary of the beginning of the blockade of Leningrad.

Officers of the Main Command of the Navy, the headquarters of the Western Military District, representatives of state and local authorities, public organizations, blockade veterans and residents of the city laid flowers at the Motherland Monument, and as a sign of grief honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence. The company of the guard of honor gave military honors.

In accordance with the instructions of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, on this day in all military units
and organizations subordinate to the Main Command of the Navy, commemorative events were held. Laying ceremonies were also held at the mass graves of fallen soldiers and military memorial cemeteries.

On this day 80 years ago, the fascist German troops of Army Group North captured the city of Shlisselburg (Petrokrepost).
From that moment on, the almost 900-day siege of Leningrad began.
