In the Astrakhan Region, during a tactical exercise at the Kapustin Yar training ground, crews of Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) and Igla portable anti-aircraft missile systems (MANPADS) of the Southern Military District (YuVO) repulsed air strikes of a simulated enemy.

The anti-aircraft gunners fulfilled the standards for the search, detection, classification and tracking of air targets, after which they hit them at altitudes from 5 to 10 km. The servicemen fired both from equipped positions and from a short stop while moving.

In total, about 700 servicemen of the Southern Military District take part in the exercise, about 100 pieces of equipment are involved, including the Buk-M2, Buk-M3, Tor-M2, Osa-AKM, Strela-10 MANPADS …

In the Southern Military District, one regimental and four bilateral battalion tactical exercises are held at combined-arms training grounds located in the Stavropol Territory, in the Rostov Region, the Chechen Republic, the Volgograd Region and the Crimea. About 10 thousand servicemen take part in them, about 800 pieces of weapons and equipment are involved, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery pieces and multiple launch rocket systems. For the purpose of interspecific interaction, more than 40 aircraft and helicopters of army and operational-tactical aviation have been attracted from the association of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District.
