Representatives of the armed forces of China, Vietnam and Myanmar as observers will take part in the joint strategic exercise (SSU) of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus “West-2021”.

The day before, military observers from Myanmar arrived in the Nizhny Novgorod region to familiarize themselves with the exercise plan and to participate in the opening ceremony, which took place at the Mulino training ground.

The armed forces of Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be represented at the exercise by operational groups of officers as part of the leadership headquarters.

Units of the armed forces of Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia will take part in joint practical actions at training ranges as part of the coalition grouping of troops (forces) within the framework of the SSU “West-2021”.

More than 100 representatives of military departments at the diplomatic missions of foreign states accredited in the Russian Federation have also been invited to the main stage of the Western-2021 SSA.

The joint strategic exercise (SSU) of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus is held every two years in accordance with the decision made by the heads of the two states.

Exercise “West-2021” is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation this year.

Practical actions of troops (forces) will take place from 10 to 16 September 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.

In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple launch rocket systems will participate in the SSU “West-2021” on the territory of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships.

The maximum number of personnel of military units involved in training, subject to the Vienna Document 2011, on the territory of the Russian Federation will not exceed 6400 military personnel.

The return of military command and control bodies and troops to their permanent deployment points after participation in the exercise is planned until mid-October of this year.
