The main events took place on the territory of the Pravdinsky training ground, which is intended for firing from various weapons, tactical and tactical-special exercises with military units and subdivisions of the army corps of the Baltic Fleet.

The ceremony was attended by the commander of the Baltic Fleet, Admiral Alexander Nosatov, the command staff of the army corps of the fleet, as well as veterans of the Armed Forces, servicemen taking part in the exercise. During a short meeting, Admiral Alexander Nosatov admonished his subordinates to perform high-quality training and combat missions and wished the Baltic people success in the joint strategic exercise.

The Commander of the Baltic Fleet noted that the fleet is ready to conduct a joint strategic exercise “West-2021”. “For the Baltic Fleet, this exercise is a serious test,” said Admiral Alexander Nosatov and expressed confidence that during the exercise “commanders of all grades will demonstrate the skills of managing their units in conditions and conditions close to combat.”

The ceremony ended with a general solemn passage of military equipment and servicemen of the army corps of the Baltic Fleet.

Also, the solemn ceremonies of the opening of the exercise were held on the territory of the amphibious assault range of the Baltic Fleet Khmelevka, in the formations and units of the Baltic naval base.

The joint strategic exercise (SSU) of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus is held every two years in accordance with the decision made by the heads of the two states.

Exercise “West-2021” is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation this year.

Practical actions of troops (forces) take place from 10 to 16 September 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the waters of the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.

In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars, take part in the SSU “West-2021” on the territory of Russia and Belarus , as well as up to 15 ships.

The maximum number of personnel of military units involved in training, subject to the Vienna Document 2011, on the territory of the Russian Federation does not exceed 6400 military personnel.

The return of military command and control bodies and troops to their permanent deployment points after participation in the exercise is planned until mid-October of this year.
