Nadezhda Runikhina, Chief Geriatrician of the Moscow Healthcare Department, told mos.ru that she will help the elderly to preserve their health in the cold season.
The coronavirus pandemic has taught us to closely monitor our health and the health of loved ones. It is especially important to notice alarming symptoms in the elderly in time. Today you can check the state of the body for free in one of the pavilions “Healthy Moscow”, which will run until October 1. The box “Taking care of health” will come in handy – such a gift from the Moscow Government is received by residents over 65 years old who, since June 23, have received at least one component of the coronavirus vaccine in Moscow or are vaccinated before October 1, and then complete the vaccination. The gift set is now also being given to seniors who were boosted against coronavirus during the same period.
By the beginning of September set holders more than 120 thousand people became. Read the mos.ru article for what is useful in the “Taking care of your health” box and how older residents of the capital can monitor their well-being.
Prevention and activity
According to the chief geriatrician Moscow Department of HealthNadezhda Runikhina, the problem of older people is not only a weakened immune system, but also concomitant chronic diseases that are exacerbated in autumn and winter. These are, for example, hypertension and coronary heart disease. In addition, in rainy and cold weather, representatives of the older generation go out less often – therefore, physical activity decreases.
“Reducing physical activity adversely affects health. In patients with diabetes, for example, the level of glucose in the blood may change, and in those who suffer from hypertension, blood pressure rises, there is a risk of a hypertensive crisis, ”says Nadezhda Runikhina.
The doctor’s advice is to move and walk. Even if it’s raining outside, dress for the weather and make sure your feet don’t get wet. In addition, you need to do exercises at home every day. You can also practice Nordic walking or health gymnastics. Such classes are held outdoors and completely free of charge – within the framework of the project “Moscow longevity”…
At least once a month, it is worth visiting a therapist, and if the condition worsens, a geriatrician, a specialist in the pathology of people of age. This is especially true for those who have diseases of the kidneys, heart, lungs, diabetes. Often, retirees prescribe their own treatment by reading an advertisement or listening to someone, and a mistake in the choice of drugs or the wrong dosage can lead to serious consequences.
“It’s also important to eat more vitamin-rich fruits and maintain protein levels. The norm for aging is one gram of protein per kilogram of body weight, ”the doctor explains.
A mandatory, from the point of view of a geriatrician, preventive measure this fall is a coronavirus vaccine, if it has not already been done. “At the same time, it is still important to avoid crowded places and protect yourself with masks,” emphasizes Nadezhda Runikhina.
And one more piece of advice is to get the necessary medical devices. A home medicine cabinet needs a blood pressure monitor and a pulse oximeter to measure the oxygen content in the blood. This device is especially relevant during the coronavirus pandemic.
More than half of the visitors to the Healthy Moscow pavilions underwent an in-depth examination after COVID-19 The most popular way to make an appointment with a doctor has become a mobile application
The box “Taking care of health” contains a set of essentials for a person of age. There is just a tonometer and a pulse oximeter, a pill box, a dietary supplement “Omega-3” and vitamin D3 – they will help support immunity in the cold season. There are also cosmetics for skin care, antibacterial gel and medical masks.
The gift is given out in special paragraphs, including at district clinics and social service centers. You will need to present a passport, compulsory medical insurance policy and a certificate of vaccination or a QR code.

Pensioners who have already received the box “Taking care of health” note that there is nothing superfluous in the set – the compilers thought of everything.
“A very useful set. Now I will regularly measure my blood pressure and pulse, ”says 72-year-old Tatiana Trukhinova. “I was pleasantly surprised – as if they had read my mind. Vitamins, cosmetics for skin care, tonometer – not a single useless thing. And I dreamed of buying a pulse oximeter for a long time, tried to order it via the Internet, but did not find a suitable price. And suddenly I get a box with this device in it! And the masks also made me happy, because they are quickly consumed, ”says 66-year-old Natalia Serkova.
The owners of the boxes say the gift was a good addition to their own wellness programs. Tatiana Trukhinova attends the courses of Latin American dances and breathing exercises “Moscow Longevity”, is going to yoga. And Natalia Serkova walks five thousand steps every day. “And I also try not to worry, to forgive all insults. Healthy nerves – healthy organism! ” – she is sure.
