On September 12, in Rostov-on-Don, on the square of the Main Church of the Southern Military District (YuVO) of St. George the Victorious, a solemn ceremony of handing over the battle flags of the Red Army formations that took part in the liberation of the Don capital from Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War will take place.

The honor guard will conduct a ritual of demonstration of the battle banners of the 339th Taman-Brandenburg Infantry Red Banner Order of Suvorov Division, formed in August 1941 from the natives of the Rostov Region, and the 347th Melitopol Red Banner Order of Suvorov Infantry Division, formed in August 1941.

Also, copies of the Battle Banner of the Red Banner North Caucasian Military District, formed on May 4, 1918, and a copy of the Banner of the Order of Suvorov of the Red Banner South Military District, formed on September 20, 2010, will be transferred to the Main Church of the Southern Military District.

The ceremonial event will be attended by the command of the Southern Military District, representatives of the administration of the Rostov region and municipal authorities, power structures of the region and the Russian Orthodox Church.

The celebrations will end with a festive concert program with the participation of military artists and creative teams of the Rostov garrison. On the parish territory for the townspeople there will be an exhibition of samples of weapons and military equipment, a mobile exhibition of the Military-Historical Hall of the Officers’ House of the Southern Military District, dedicated to the combat chronicles of the 339th and 347th rifle divisions, as well as an exhibition of artifacts from the times of the Great Patriotic War.

Pupils of the Rostov Spiritual and Patriotic Center of St. George the Victorious will present a historical reconstruction of the assault on the heights.

Everyone will be able to taste the soldier’s porridge and Don Cossack fish soup.
