This season the theater is preparing 16 new performances. Three of them will be directed by the artistic director Eugene Marcelli.

The Mossovet Theater opened the 99th season with the traditional gathering of the troupe, which took place on September 10. Artistic director and director Yevgeny Marcelli spoke about the preparations for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the theater and about the upcoming premieres.

Premieres on the main stage

The first premiere is scheduled for October 10 – the play “Eight Loving Women” based on the play by the French playwright Robert Thom. Christmas, which an aristocratic family is preparing to celebrate in a country mansion in a close circle, is overshadowed by murder. All the women present are under suspicion: the victim’s wife, his sister, daughter, as well as his stepdaughter, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and two maidservants. The director of the play is Olesya Nevmerzhitskaya. Cast – Olga Ostroumova, Olga Kabo, Ekaterina Guseva, Evgenia Kryukova and other actresses.

At the end of October, another premiere will take place – “Cruel Intentions” by Alexei Arbuzov directed by Yevgeny Marcelli. This is the first production of the artistic director in this theater – he received the position in September last year. In addition, three performances based on the plays of William Shakespeare await the audience this season. Two of them will be directed by Andrei Konchalovsky, premieres are scheduled for December and spring 2022.


In January – February, director Honored Artist of Russia Igor Yatsko will stage the comedy “Wolves and Sheep” by A.N. Ostrovsky. The landowner Meropia Murzavetskaya will be played by the People’s Artist of Russia Valentina Talyzina. Also in the plans are the premieres of the performances “Young Ladies from Wilko” staged by the Polish director Andrzej Buben, “The Game Right Through” (directed by Nina Chusova) with Alexander Domogarov and Stanislav Bondarenko. The play by Bernard Shaw “House where hearts are broken” will be staged by Honored Artist of Russia Sergei Vinogradov, and “Dragon” by Yevgeny Schwartz will be staged by Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Yatsko.

Premieres on the stage “Under the Roof”

Several new productions will also be shown on the Under the Roof stage. We are talking about “Mom” by the young director Pavel Parkhomenko based on the play by the French playwright Florian Zeller and “Carlson”, which will be staged by the theater actor Vladislav Bokovin based on the book by Astrid Lindgren. Both premieres are scheduled for November. Director Vladimir Kimmelman will take on Alexei Zhitkovsky’s Gorka. This play about the hard life of a kindergarten teacher was recognized as the best at the “Climax” festival in 2018.

The repertoire will include “Dormitory on Blood” based on the novel by Alexei Ivanov. Director Olesya Nevmerzhitskaya staged the play at GITIS, the roles were played by students of Andrey Konchalovsky’s workshop. Another student work will also appear on the stage – “The Thick Notebook” based on the novel of the same name by Agota Christophe. Directed by Tatiana Tarasova. The students of the fourth year of GITIS (course of Oleg Kudryashov) are playing.

For 2022, Evgeny Marcelli has planned another premiere – the play “The Team” based on the play by Semyon Zlotnikov. The main characters are six young handball players who are trying to cope with their worries and troubles in life on the eve of a very important competition.

100th anniversary of the theater

This season, preparations will begin for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the theater. The artistic director did not disclose all the details.

“We are planning to open an experimental program, the so-called laboratory of modern theater,” said Yevgeny Marcelli. – This will be a rather serious initiative and work. I hope that we will not have a single space empty where you can rehearse. “

Creative projects within the laboratory are planned to be implemented at all stages of the theater, including the foyer and the Aquarium garden.

For the theater’s birthday, the building is going to be renovated: to update the equipment on the main stage, to tidy up the auditorium and dressing rooms. Work is scheduled for next summer, with the artists at this time will show performances on tour and other city venues.

In the new season, the troupe will have an extensive touring program. First of all, the actors will go to Balashov, Saratov Region, with the play “The Players”. Negotiations are underway with the Tambov Youth Theater, where it is planned to show the production of “The Thunderstorm Gone”. Negotiations are also underway about the theater’s tour in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Samara.
