Experts of electronic warfare of the Western Military District organized camouflage and protection of field mobile command and control posts during the joint strategic exercise of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus “West-2021”

At the training grounds of the Western Military District, EW units provide cover for command posts and important industrial facilities, electronic reconnaissance and direction finding of radiation sources.

EW calculations provide protection of field command posts, communications, launching positions of missile complexes, interfering with missile guidance systems and aircraft of the imaginary enemy.

In a special order, the issues of countering the unmanned aviation of a simulated enemy will be worked out, based on the experience of intercepting enemy drones during an operation in the Syrian Arab Republic.

In total, the joint strategic exercise “West-2021” involved more than 300 specialists from the electronic warfare system of the Western Military District and over 50 units of special equipment, including the unique ground complexes “Krasukha-S4”, “Krasukha-2.0”, “Zhitel” and “Borisoglebsk”.

The joint strategic exercise (SSU) “West-2021” of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus is held every two years in accordance with the decision adopted by the heads of the two states, and is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation this year.

Practical actions of troops (forces) take place from 10 to 16 September 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Baltic Sea and at five training grounds of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.

About 200 thousand people, over 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, incl. over 290 tanks, over 240 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars, up to 15 ships. Of these, 12,800 people (including up to 2,500 Russian military personnel), more than 30 aircraft and helicopters, up to 350 units of military equipment (including about 140 tanks, up to 110 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars) are involved in exercises on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

The exercise also involves about 2,000 servicemen from member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other friendly countries.
