MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

The air crews of the Leningrad Army of the Air Force and Air Defense used the technique of destroying armored vehicles of a mock enemy from ambushes during the regrouping of troops at the Lugsky training ground in the Leningrad Region as part of the West-2021 joint strategic exercise of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

The new technology allows helicopters to effectively solve reconnaissance and strike missions in the operational-tactical zone of application of a joint group of forces to defeat highly mobile enemy equipment. When using this technique of inflicting a fire strike, helicopter pairs are deployed on camouflaged areas in woodlands. When a conditional enemy breaks through, they take off from cover and hit targets from missile and cannon armament.

Pilots of the Mi-8, Mi-28N “Night Hunter”, and Ka-52 “Alligator” multipurpose helicopters make approaches to the “enemy” object from behind natural shelters and woodlands, the crew uses missile and cannon weapons at a distance of 500 meters to 5 km, including from extremely low altitudes. Immediately after hitting the target, under cover of the trail of the moving sides, they again break down behind cover.

Army aviation helicopters, military personnel of the flight and engineering personnel of the Western Military District are involved in the exercise.
