The Ruzhansky air training ground became the place of the drawing of the main episode with the participation of the combat aviation of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus during the joint strategic exercise West-2021.

According to the plan of the exercise, the reconnaissance discovered a large grouping of a simulated enemy, including an airfield with air complexes.

Allied planes took to the skies to destroy it. The first to appear over the objects were the Belarusian Su-30SM fighters, they carried out additional reconnaissance of the area and took control of the airspace.

Then, in positions with the use of aviation weapons, pilots of assault, bomber, fighter aircraft, as well as attack helicopters, worked. Bombing at ground targets was carried out, among other things, by the crews of Tu-22M3 long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces.

In addition, within the framework of the episode, the issues of evacuating the crew of the crashed helicopter were worked out. Under the cover of a pair of Mi-24 helicopters, specialists from the search rescue squad carried out the evacuation of the pilots from the battlefield.

In total, over 20 aircraft were involved in the drawing of the episode. More than 50 aerial bombs were dropped in the area of ​​the test site, 130 unguided aerial missiles and 850 shells of 30 mm caliber were fired. According to objective control data, all targets were destroyed during the exercise.

The joint strategic exercise (SSU) of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus is held every two years in accordance with the decision made by the heads of the two states.

Exercise “West-2021” is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation this year.

Practical actions of troops (forces) take place from 10 to 16 September 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the waters of the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.

In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple launch rocket systems, take part in the SSU “West-2021” on the territory of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships.

The maximum number of personnel of military units involved in training, subject to the Vienna Document 2011, on the territory of the Russian Federation does not exceed 6400 military personnel.

The return of military command and control bodies and troops to their permanent deployment points after participation in the exercise is planned until mid-October of this year.
