As part of the exercise with the Arctic expeditionary group of the Northern Fleet, the units of the army corps worked out the main episode – conducting defense while repelling the strike of a simulated enemy who tried to go on the offensive on the Kola Peninsula.
Exercise with live fire from all types of weapons and military equipment was held at a training ground in the Pechenga district of the Murmansk region. It involved more than 300 units of military equipment – “Arctic” T-80BVM tanks, self-propelled artillery mounts “Gvozdika” and “Akatsia”, tracked armored personnel carriers, air defense systems – anti-aircraft missile and gun complexes “Tunguska”, anti-tank missile systems and artillery, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles.
The units on the defensive were supported by the crews of the Su-24 front-line bombers from the separate mixed air regiment of the Air Force and Air Defense Association of the Northern Fleet, which carried out aerial bombardments against the advancing forces of the mock enemy.
During the exercise, camouflage means, electronic warfare systems, jamming and false targets were widely used. Conducting various types of reconnaissance with the use of modern technical means has been worked out. A check was made of the combat stability of the communications equipment in service, which ensures the coherence of the subunits’ actions. Combat tactics have been worked out in the Far North and the Arctic with the use of modern means of warfare.
In total, more than 2,000 servicemen of the coastal forces of the Northern Fleet were involved in the drawing of large-scale defensive actions.
The exercise with the Arctic expeditionary group of the Northern Fleet is held in accordance with the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation under the leadership of the commander of the Northern Fleet and is the final stage in the implementation of a set of measures for operational and combat training of forces (troops) of the Northern Fleet this year.
Practical actions of the forces (troops) of the Northern Fleet take place at the training grounds of the Murmansk region, in the waters of the Barents and Kara Seas, the Laptev Sea in the area of the New Siberian Islands, and the Franz Josef Land archipelago.
Up to 8 thousand servicemen, about 800 units of military and special equipment, including about 40 tanks, 460 armored combat vehicles, up to 240 guns, mortars and multiple launch rocket systems, about 120 aircraft, including unmanned, up to 50 ships and support vessels.
