The artillerymen of the motorized rifle unit of the Southern Military District (YuVO) performed counter-battery combat missions – “artillery duels” at the stage of live firing as part of a bilateral battalion tactical exercise (BTU) at the Prudboy training ground in the Volgograd region.

Howitzer and jet batteries competed in the speed and accuracy of combat training missions, alternately acting as a “hunter”.

Artillery units actively used modern reconnaissance, control and communications systems “Strelets”, artillery reconnaissance complexes and unmanned aircraft.

Each crew performed more than ten control exercises, hitting targets from the Msta-S and Khost self-propelled artillery mounts and Tornado-G multiple launch rocket systems, having worked out the change of firing positions.

In total, more than 400 artillerymen of the Southern Military District were involved in the exercise, about 50 units of rocket and artillery weapons, military and special equipment, including unmanned aircraft complexes, were involved.

At the same time, four bilateral battalion tactical exercises are being held in the Southern Military District at combined-arms training grounds located in the Volgograd Region, Karachay-Cherkessia, the Chechen Republic and at a military base in the Republic of South Ossetia. About 6 thousand servicemen take part in them, about 300 pieces of weapons and equipment are involved, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery pieces and multiple launch rocket systems. For the purpose of interspecific interaction, more than 40 aircraft and helicopters of army and operational-tactical aviation have been attracted from the association of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District.
