In order to prevent the approach and deployment of the imaginary enemy’s reserves and assist the advancing troops during the practical actions of the main stage of the joint strategic exercise (SSU) West-2021, the command of the coalition group decided to use operational-tactical airborne assault.

As part of the operational-tactical landing, the Airborne Forces, in cooperation with military transport aviation, for the first time carried out the parachute landing of the parachute battalion on the newest BMD-4M airborne combat vehicles of the airborne regiment of the Tula Guards Airborne Force in full force.

The landing was carried out from 21 Il-76MD aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces simultaneously to two landing sites, at minimum lateral intervals between aircraft with an altitude separation of 800 to 1100 meters, under the cover of multifunctional Su-35S fighters, to the Zhitovo landing site in Ryazan area.

Together with the Russian paratroopers, the combat mission was carried out by 20 paratroopers from India, who landed on their parachute systems in the combat formations of the Russian airborne battalion.

The landing of personnel and equipment was carried out on two landing sites, at minimum lateral intervals between aircraft with a height separation of eight hundred to one thousand one hundred meters.

In total, more than 300 servicemen of the Russian Airborne Forces, 20 servicemen of the Republic of India and more than 30 of the latest BMD-4M airborne assault vehicles were parachuted as part of the operational-tactical landing.

The landing and actions of the tactical airborne assault units allowed the troops of the coalition group of forces to achieve high rates of offensive, prohibit the maneuver of reserves, disrupt the command and control system of troops and weapons, and the work of the mock enemy’s rear.
