Units of the Airborne Forces of Russia and the Airborne Assault Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan have worked out the tactics of conducting joint assault actions in urban conditions during the main stage of the joint strategic exercise (SSU) “West-2021” at the Mulino training ground in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

According to the plan of the exercise, the tactical airborne assault as part of the units of Russian and Kazakh paratroopers, continuing to perform the combat mission in the rear of the simulated enemy, secretly advanced to the targets of capture, actively using underground communications and dense urban development.

The paratroopers, using the high mobility of special vehicles “Sarmat”, carried out a bypass of the enemy and inflicted fire damage on him with the support of attack helicopters of the army aviation.

The assault groups, having burst into the buildings, acting boldly and boldly, seized staircases, platforms and entrenched themselves on them, clearing the adjoining premises from the “enemy”. Attached engineering and assault units made passages in the walls and interfloor ceilings, cleared the captured object and prepared it for detonation.

During the entire time of the combat training mission, the actions of the tactical airborne assault were supported by a battery of 122-mm D-30 howitzers, delivered to the area of ​​the combat mission by army aviation helicopters on an external sling.

In total, more than 300 paratroopers from Russia and Kazakhstan, 10 army helicopters, batteries of 122-mm D-30 howitzers and 82-mm Podnos mortars, as well as two crews of anti-tank missile systems were involved in the episode of the main stage of the “battle in the city” exercise. “Cornet” and four units of light special vehicles “Sarmat-2”.

Practical actions of troops (forces) will take place from 10 to 16 September at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus.

In total, up to 200 thousand servicemen will take part in the SSU “West-2021” on the territory of Russia and Belarus, about 80 aircraft and helicopters will be involved, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars , as well as up to 15 ships.

The maximum number of personnel of military units involved in training, subject to the Vienna Document 2011 on Confidence and Security Building Measures, on the territory of the Russian Federation will not exceed 6,400 servicemen.

The return of military command and control bodies and troops to their permanent deployment points after participation in the exercise is planned until mid-October.
