Most often, susak and reeds are planted near reservoirs.
Specialists of the municipal economy complex will plant 60 thousand aquatic plants on the well-equipped city ponds this year. Thanks to their natural functions and modern landscape solutions, a unique ecosystem is created on the reservoirs. It will help self-purify water and create favorable conditions for the life of waterfowl and underwater inhabitants.
Over the years, silt accumulates in ponds, algae and other plants spread, because of this, reservoirs quickly become shallow. Such ponds quickly warm up in the heat, as a result of which a dense green film appears on the water, the accumulation of new silt is accelerated, and the temperature exchange of water layers is disrupted.
A new solution for the urban economy complex on landscaped reservoirs, which has been used for several years already, is the arrangement of special bioplato zones along the perimeter of the ponds. They balance the ecosystem and maintain high water quality. The zones are settled a few centimeters below the water level and are separated by gabions from the main water area of the ponds in order to exclude the ingress of soil from the bioplato zone into it and prevent the growth of aquatic vegetation.
Since the beginning of the warm season, Mosvodostok employees have planted aquatic vegetation at four reconstructed city ponds – Konkovo-Derevlevo Verkhny, Yasnoye, Sobachye and Nizhny Udaltsovsky. In the middle of summer, the plants were also planted on the Golden Pond in Sokolniki Park. This was done specifically for the comfort of a couple of swans, which is the symbol of the park.
All ponds were planted with about 33 thousand plants. Until the end of the warm season of 2021, aquatic vegetation will appear in special bioplato zones at Kapustinsky pond and around the island of Verkhny Udaltsovsky pond. In total, about 27 thousand more plants will be planted.
“Susak and reeds have become the predominant aquatic plants in the ponds being reconstructed by Mosvodostok – 10 thousand plants of each species. Primarily due to their high ability to extract biogenic contaminants from water. In addition, they are very beautiful and will undoubtedly become an adornment of our city ponds ”, – said Evgenia Zarutskaya, Deputy General Director of the State Unitary Enterprise“ Mosvodostok ”.
In the bioplato are planted a yellow egg capsule, an umbelliferae of an umbrella, an ordinary iris, a marsh iris, an ordinary reed, a lake reed, a broad-leaved cricket, a rooting reed. Plants become the predominant species in the renewed reservoir, as they take food from filamentous algae, preventing their growth. Microorganisms on plant roots also help self-purification of water from harmful impurities.
