More than 400 cadets of the district training center for training junior specialists of motorized rifle and tank forces of the Eastern Military District (VVO), as part of the course, mastered the skills of underwater driving of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles at the Peschanka training ground in the Trans-Baikal Territory.

So, in the course of practical training, the T-72B crews in motion overcame an artificial reservoir about 100 meters wide with immersion to a depth of 5 meters. At the same time, in the complete absence of visibility and visual reference points, the driver-mechanics controlled the combat vehicles using special devices – gyro-compasses, designed to determine the direction of movement of tanks under water.

In addition, in the classroom, under the guidance of the commanders of the subunits-teachers, the actions for the evacuation of personnel and equipment in the event of a conditional flooding were practiced. Before the training began, the servicemen were given detailed instructions on how to comply with safety requirements, and the tanks with pre-installed air ducts were thoroughly sealed.

Also, for admission to underwater driving, the tankers underwent a light diving training course, during which, on a special flooded model of the tank, they complied with the standards for using an insulating gas mask and leaving a combat vehicle when the engine was stopped.

For reference:

The district training center of the Air Defense Forces, stationed in the Trans-Baikal Territory, is one of the best training units in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for training junior specialists for combined arms units. Currently, over 2 thousand cadets are trained in 14 military specialties.
