As part of an exercise with an Arctic expeditionary group to protect the Arctic island zone and the sea coast of the Russian Federation, the Bastion coastal missile system deployed on the Alexandra Land island of the Franz Josef Land archipelago worked out the destruction of a group of imaginary enemy ships. The firing was carried out by an anti-ship cruise missile at a target position installed in the Barents Sea at maximum range.

Inspection of the target by the crew of the Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft after firing confirmed the successful defeat of the target.

The rocket firing area was previously closed to civilian shipping and aviation. The closure of the area was ensured by ships of the Kola flotilla of diverse forces.

The frigate “Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov” also took part in the execution of the combat exercise, which issued target designation to the combat crew of the BRK “Bastion” on the Arctic island and worked out the designation of a missile strike with its main complex. The ship was trained in the use of rocket weapons without actually firing.
