The troops of the Western Military District (ZVO), the Airborne Forces (Airborne Forces) and the aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, involved in the joint strategic exercise West-2021 at the Obuz-Lesnovsky and Brestsky ranges in the territory of the Republic of Belarus, have begun to return to points of permanent deployment in the Russian Federation.

Currently, military units and formations of the Guards Tank Army and the Airborne Forces are marching to railway stations and airfields, where they load onto railway platforms and military transport aircraft (VTA). The engineering staff began preparing aviation equipment for the flight to airfields based in the Russian Federation.

The first military echelons are already on the move. In the course of further movement, military personnel and units will make marches in a combined way, covering a distance from 800 to 1200 kilometers.

On the way, the issues of conducting air defense, combating sabotage and reconnaissance groups of a simulated enemy, as well as all-round support of marches will be worked out.

After marches to the points of permanent deployment, motorized rifle, tank, artillery units and support units will start servicing weapons and military equipment, as well as preparing for the new academic year, which will begin in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on December 1 of this year.

In turn, the aviation crews of the military transport, long-range, operational-tactical and army aviation of the Aerospace Forces and the Western Military District, which participated in the joint strategic exercise West-2021, began to relocate from operational airfields to permanent deployment points.

Il-76, Tu-22m3, Su-35s, Su-30sm, Su-34 aircraft, Ka-52, Mi-28n, Mi-35, Mi-24, Mi-8 helicopters of various modifications, involved in various episodes of the exercise, in the near future they will be delivered to the home airfields.

During the SSU “West-2021”, the crews of the Aerospace Forces and the ZVO worked out the tasks of intercepting air targets, using airborne weapons against ground targets, airborne personnel, military equipment and cargo, air support for the actions of combined arms units and others.

A joint strategic exercise of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus is held every two years in accordance with the decision adopted by the heads of the two states.

Exercise “West-2021” is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation this year.

Practical actions of troops (forces) took place from 10 to 16 September 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.

About 200 thousand people, more than 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, incl. over 290 tanks, over 240 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars, up to 15 ships. Of these, 12,800 people (including up to 2,500 Russian military personnel), more than 30 aircraft and helicopters, up to 350 units of military equipment (including about 140 tanks, up to 110 guns, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars) were involved in training on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

The exercise was also attended by about 2 thousand servicemen from the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other friendly countries.

At the same time, the maximum number of personnel of military units involved in training under a single operational command falling under the Vienna Document 2011 on Confidence and Security Building Measures in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus did not exceed 6,400 and 6,300, respectively.
