The forces and troops of the Northern Fleet, operating in the Arctic as part of an exercise with an Arctic expeditionary group, have begun the phase-out phase. The commander of the Northern Fleet, Hero of Russia, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, under whose leadership this exercise took place, summed up its preliminary results.

As Admiral Alexander Moiseev noted, “the personnel of the forces and troops of the fleet, who participated in the exercise of the Arctic expeditionary group, by their practical actions confidently proved their readiness to solve the tasks of defending the Arctic territories of Russia, ensuring military security and maritime economic activities of the Russian Federation in the Arctic.”

The commander of the Northern Fleet stressed that “all the tasks assigned to the forces and forces of the fleet have been completed, while the personnel of the fleet participating in the exercise showed a high level of preparedness and ability to act harmoniously in a rapidly changing situation in the Arctic zone of responsibility.”

During the preparation and conduct of the exercise, there was a high activity of the forces of naval and air reconnaissance of foreign states, the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as its individual member states – the USA, Great Britain, Norway.

Up to 17 sorties into the airspace of the Barents Sea and the regions of Finland bordering the Russian Federation were performed by the base patrol and reconnaissance aircraft of the USA, Norway and Finland.

In addition to the Norwegian reconnaissance ship “Maryata”, the survey ship “Echo” and the frigate URO “Lancaster” of the British Navy were additionally sent to reinforce the detachment of the naval reconnaissance forces in the Barents Sea.

The exercise with the Arctic expeditionary group of the Northern Fleet was held in accordance with the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and was the final stage in the complex of measures for operational and combat training of forces and troops of the fleet in the current year.

During the exercise, the safety of maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity of the Russian Federation in the water area of ​​the Northern Sea Route was worked out, the tasks of managing the Arctic expeditionary group were solved in the event of joint special operations to block and destroy terrorists.

Practical actions of the forces and troops of the Northern Fleet took place at the training grounds of the Murmansk region, in the Barents and Kara Seas, in the Laptev Sea, in the regions of the New Siberian Islands, the Franz Josef Land archipelago, as well as in the Krasnoyarsk Territory near the port of Dudinka on the Yenisei River.

Up to 8 thousand servicemen were involved in the exercise, about 800 units of military and special equipment, about 120 aircraft and up to 50 warships and support vessels were involved in it.
