The latest generation of immune, hormonal and targeted drugs can treat cancers that were previously thought to be virtually incurable.
From January 1, 2022, more than 90 percent of all cancer patients will receive drug therapy according to the new standards. About it Sergei Sobyanintold in an interview with TV Center.
In addition to chemotherapy, which is traditionally used to treat malignant neoplasms, doctors use the latest generation of immune, hormonal and targeted drugs. They are more easily tolerated by patients and are able to cope even with those types of cancers that were previously considered practically incurable.
In the capital, the volume of drug therapy for cancer patients has recently grown by almost 1.5 times, the Moscow Mayor noted.
“This is not the same disease, this is not a runny nose and a slight flu. This is a disease that is associated with the patient’s life. Therefore, of course, from the moment of diagnosis until complete recovery, a person should be, as they say, in the same hands, ”said Sergei Sobyanin.
For this, on the basis of the largest hospitals of the city – the city clinical hospital No. 57 named after D.D. Pletnev, Moscow Clinical Scientific Center named after A.S. Loginov, Moscow City Oncological Hospital No. 62, City Clinical Hospital named after S.P. Botkin, City Clinical Hospital No. 40 and City Clinical Oncological Hospital No. 1 – six multidisciplinary oncological centers have been organized. Each of them includes a clinic, a pathological laboratory and an outpatient oncological care center. The centers have a full range of clinical capabilities: they carry out diagnostics, surgical treatment, drug therapy, and dispensary observation.
A new standard for cancer care was approved in 2019. Its main provisions were introduced into the metropolitan health care system last year.
Speaking about the treatment of cancer during the peak of the pandemic, the Moscow Mayor noted the high results of the work of doctors.
“I believe that, in general, the oncological service coped with dignity: during this period, we not only did not reduce, but also increased surgical oncological care, chemotherapy, and in general the diagnosis and routing of patients, diseases began to be detected more often at the initial stage, life expectancy increased those who have been diagnosed with cancer, ”said Sergei Sobyanin.
Moscow became the first region in Russia to adopt new federal clinical guidelines for the treatment of the most common types of cancer three years ahead of schedule. From April 1, 2019, patients are prescribed the most effective targeted and immune drugs. For the first half of 2021, drug therapy for cancer was provided 34,153 patients (in 2020 – 43,188 patients). From January 1, 2022, drug therapy will be available for four more types of cancer – bladder, ovary, stomach, head and neck.
In August last year, a pilot project “Personal Assistant” was released. Within its framework, specialists from the My Documents offices help patients with oncological diseases make appointments with doctors, for examinations, remind them of their upcoming visit, enter information into the city cancer registry, and solve emerging problems.
