In the Leningrad Region, at the airfield of a separate transport mixed aviation regiment of the Air Force and Air Defense Association of the Western Military District, training flights were carried out in difficult meteorological conditions at night.

Crews of military transport aircraft Tu-134M, An-72, An-12, An-26, as well as multipurpose Mi-8 helicopters worked out piloting elements in conditions of limited visibility due to low cloudiness and heavy rainfall. When flying in such conditions, the aircraft crew does not have the ability to visually pilot the aircraft and proceeds to instrument piloting.

A special role in the training program was given to landing an aircraft as the most difficult element of piloting in conditions of limited visibility. Landing in adverse weather conditions with a specified minimum weather is one of the main criteria for the professionalism of a pilot in military transport, transport and special aviation.

Training flights, along with the tasks of improving the professional skills of the crews, are one of the mandatory elements of pilot training, necessary to determine the individual parameters of the meteorological minimum for each pilot.
