The issues of deepening cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Republic of Peru became the main topic of the working meeting between the Director of the EEC Integration Development Department Goar Barseghian and the Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade of the Republic of Peru Diego Llos Velasquez. The meeting took place on September 15 in the format of a video conference at the initiative of the Peruvian side.
Gohar Barseghyan noted that the Republic of Peru is one of the key partners of the EEC in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
“The Republic of Peru became one of the first states with whom in 2015 the EEC signed a memorandum of understanding. During the meetings of the working group, the parties substantively discuss areas of cooperation of mutual interest, including the application of the EAEU Unified System of Tariff Preferences in relation to developing countries, innovations in customs legislation, peculiarities of technical regulation and application of SPS measures, doing business on the territory of the EAEU and the functioning of a single market for services, investment guarantees, the implementation of an agreed agricultural policy in the Union, as well as the regulation of intellectual property, the sphere of innovation and many others. Today the Commission proposes to move on to the formation of the agenda of the third meeting of the working group, ”- said the representative of the EEC.
Diego Llosa Velazquez supported the initiative of the Commission and stressed that the Peruvian side would be ready to receive the EEC delegation early next year in Lima for the third meeting of the working group.
During the conversation, the parties noted the positive dynamics of trade between the EAEU and Peru in the first half of this year.
“Trade turnover in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period last year increased by 34.6% and amounted to USD 268.9 million, including exports increased by 29.1% (USD 104.6 million), and imports by 38.3% ($ 164.3 million). Traditionally, the Russian Federation accounted for the bulk of the total trade turnover between the EAEU and Peru – 86.5%. It is gratifying that compared to the previous year, the share of Kazakhstan has also significantly increased, amounting to 11.4%, ”Gohar Barseghyan emphasized.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the trade bloc of the Commission, who answered questions from the Peruvian side related to the principles of the Eurasian Economic Union’s trade negotiations.
The representatives of the EEC and Peru paid special attention to the development of dialogue within the framework of the Commission’s interaction with the integration associations of Latin America, of which the Republic of Peru is a member, in particular with the Andean Community, the Pacific Alliance and the Latin American Integration System. The Deputy Minister of Peru welcomed the proposal of the ECE to organize separate events between regional structures, during which the parties can exchange integration practices and discuss joint solutions to global economic problems.
