Representatives of the Main Command of the Navy took part in commemorative events in the village of Pigelevo in the Anninsky urban settlement of the Lomonosov District of the Leningrad Region, dedicated to the memory of the 1st Special Marine Brigade of the Red Banner Baltic Fleet, who died in September 1941.
The commemorative and solemn event began with the introduction of the national flag of Russia, after which all those present honored the memory of the dead soldiers with a minute of silence and laid wreaths and flowers at the monument. The rector of the church of St. Theodore Ushakov, priest Arkady Nicholas and priest of the church Alexander served a prayer service for the dead.
At the end of the event, a small concert took place, at which veterans of the Marine Corps Yuri Shatunov and Vladimir Barkalov, as well as the soloist of the “Black Berets of St. Petersburg” group Yulia Tereshko, performed.
The first special brigade of the marines of the Red Banner Baltic Fleet was formed on May 15, 1940 in Kronstadt and was redeployed to Tallinn, then to Vyborg and the islands of the Gulf of Finland. On January 1, the number of the brigade was 6.5 thousand people, including a division of combat swimmers-saboteurs. Colonel (later Major General of Coastal Service) Parafilo Terenty Mikhailovich was appointed brigade commander. From the very beginning of the Great Patriotic War on June 22, the brigade defended Tallinn and took an active part in eliminating the breakthrough of German fascist troops into Estonia in various directions. During the fighting in September 1941 in Krasnoye Selo, the brigade suffered such heavy losses of personnel that it was decided to disband it.
In 2016, on the personal initiative of the head of the village of Pigelevo, Teodor Zadorozhny, a monument with an eternal flame was erected at the entrance to the village to the perished sailors of the 1st Special Marine Brigade. And from that moment, every year in September, solemn events are held near the memorial to honor the memory of the dead marines.
